| “Play gives children a chance to
practice what they are learning.” ~ Fred Rogers |
| In keeping with the vision and mission statement
of the school, it is one of our primary objectives to
ensure holistic development and learning, in a joyful
environment. |
| A heavy bag has been a debatable topic for ages. The NEP
2020 recommends that all children must experience a minimum of ten
bagless days in a year. |
| Instead of focusing on rote learning, lessons are being designed in
such a way that students get an opportunity to practically
experience the things learned in books and acquire important
life skills. |
| On 8 June 2023, a series of activities were planned
in accordance with the daily lessons for Grade I students. |
| |
| Life skills - Pouring - Pouring activity helps to
develop fine motor skills as well as using pre-number skills such as
less and more. This task helps children coordinate their hand movements
with what they are seeing and feeling. |

‘Water’ was fluidly explained by the experiment of ‘walking water’ which
highlighted the properties of water. This activity was integrated with
Art where they learned the primary and secondary colours. |

Make a Water filter |
|
Teachers of Grade I created a DIY water filter to demonstrate how to
make dirty water clear. They placed the cup into an empty jar. Pour the
dirty water into the cup so it can filter down through the gravel, sand,
and coffee filters. The filter collects all the dirt and particles in it
making the water much cleaner. |

This fun science experiment teaches children about the importance of
clean drinking water. Children were amazed to look at the difference in
the water before and after. It also demonstrates the process of how to
clean dirty or polluted water using a natural filtration system. |

Apple tree subtraction |
|
This apple tree math activity is perfect for building fine motor skills.
It’s a creative way to get the kids to learn and develop important
skills with an apple tree. Children enjoyed this activity to solve the
subtraction sums. Most of the children got a chance to share their ideas
and thoughts to take away the number of apples from the given quantity.
It quickly became a favourite new way to learn and develop math skills. |

Number line subtraction |
|
Children learned subtraction through the number line activity, where
children enjoyed using the bunny stick to jump backwards to get the
difference between the given numbers and some enjoyed using a butterfly
to fly backwards to get the difference. |
|
Children enjoyed using the animal puppets which helped them to develop

to the classroom. They have everyday applications that help draw
students deeper into the lesson plans. |
